Zenel Beu Tower
The Zenel Beu Tower in Peja is Kosovo’s noble residence reborn, built in the late 19th century as a fortified kulla for the Begolli family, it now operates as a boutique hotel and restaurant, blending Ottoman architecture with modern hospitality.

The Story
Built in the final decade of the 19th century, the Zenel Beu Tower was commissioned by the Begolli family, whose members held administrative and military roles during the Ottoman period. The tower follows the traditional kulla typology: thick stone walls, small defensive windows, and a multi-level layout separating storage, living, and guest quarters.
Between 1945 and 1947, the building was repurposed as a post office and prison under Yugoslav administration. It was later returned to the family, who lived in it until 1999, when it was burned during the Kosovo War. Restoration began in 2006, preserving its original stonework and architectural features while adapting the interior for hospitality use.
Today, the Zenel Beu Tower operates as a boutique hotel and restaurant, offering rooms with traditional décor, a sauna, and a terrace overlooking Peja’s urban landscape. The property blends Ottoman aesthetics with modern comfort, making it a popular choice for cultural travelers and heritage enthusiasts.
Its transformation from a noble residence to a public venue reflects Kosovo’s evolving relationship with its architectural past—preserving memory while inviting new experiences.
