The Story
While the views of the Anamorava plain are stunning, Kika is primarily a pilgrimage of history. In 1944 and 1945, this peak was the site of the "Battle of Kika," a significant confrontation between Albanian resistance forces and partisan brigades. For decades, the history of this region was quiet, but today, hiking to the top is seen by many locals as a way to honor that resilience.
The hike itself offers a refreshing change of pace from Kosovo’s other mountains. The path winds through thick vegetation before breaking out onto the grassy, dome-like summit. On a clear day, your view stretches across the rolling hills of the border region, offering a serene, almost meditative landscape that contrasts sharply with the violent history of the soil beneath your feet.
The Local Take:
This isn't a "tourist trap", it’s a raw, local experience. After your hike, we highly recommend stopping in the town of Kamenica for a coffee or a meal. The region is known for its hospitality and unhurried pace of life. If you meet a local shepherd or elder on the trail, a polite "Tungjatjeta" (Hello/Long life to you) often opens the door to fascinating stories about the mountain that you won't find in any guidebook.
