Loacally Know as

Pejë

Peja is Kosovo's most underrated city and the undisputed gateway to the country’s most dramatic landscapes. The city’s spiritual and historical anchor is the Patriarchate of Peć, a UNESCO-listed medieval Serbian Orthodox monastery. Tucked into the mouth of the Rugova Canyon, the monastery’s frescoed churches are some of the most overwhelming in all of Kosovo. Just minutes from the city center, the canyon offers cinematic cliffs and deep gorges. The city’s heartbeat remains the Old Bazaar and the 16th-century Hadum Mosque, where the rhythms of local life feel unhurried and genuine. Peja is a rewarding destination for travelers who are willing to look beyond postcard-perfect towns.
