The Story

Stone Castle Winery was founded in 1952 as a state-run enterprise under the name NBI Rahoveci, during Yugoslavia’s post-war industrial expansion. The region’s winemaking tradition, however, dates back to Illyrian times, with archaeological evidence of grape cultivation over 2,000 years ago.

Privatized in 2006 by Albanian-American entrepreneur Rrustem Gecaj, the winery underwent major modernization while preserving its heritage. Today, it processes up to 70,000 tons of grapes each summer, producing varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay, alongside indigenous grapes like Vranac.

Stone Castle’s wines have won international awards and are exported to Europe, Africa, and the United States. The estate includes cellars, tasting rooms, and event spaces, and hosts wine festivals, corporate retreats, and agro-tourism programs.

The winery’s philosophy blends family tradition, environmental stewardship, and elite craftsmanship, making it a symbol of Kosovo’s potential in global wine culture.
