Church of St. Nicholas
Serbian Orthodox church central to Partesh’s religious life and cultural identity.

The Story
In the heart of Kamenica, on the foundations of an old Serbian monastery, stands the Church of St. Nicholas, the city's sole functioning Orthodox church. Constructed in 1830 from local face stone, the church's simple, rectangular form speaks to a deep and enduring history. The interior is a space of reverence, reinforced by pillars and culminating in an altar apse. Its most notable feature is the iconostasis, a masterwork believed to have been crafted by artisans from Debar in North Macedonia, showcasing a rich regional legacy.
For nearly two centuries, the church has withstood the test of time and turmoil. Initially built without a dome or belfry, a dome was finally added in 1990, giving the church its now-familiar silhouette. It was severely damaged during the 2004 unrest but was painstakingly rebuilt, resuming services in 2010 as a symbol of resilience and faith.
